The purpose of this study is to investigate how the media are handling the lottery, sports betting, horse racing, and casino in the field of gambling industry through news data from 1990 to 2015 with semantic network analysis of text in one of the big data analysis methods. This paper revealed the difference between the intention of journalists and public perception on the articles by analyzing the frequency and connectivity of articles with framing and public interest through semantic network analysis and explored the policy characteristics and reform subjects. This analysis shows that articles of lottery mainly reported were ‘social issue’ related with win such as winning number, prize money, suspicion of manipulation, etc. In the case of sports betting, it were a sort of ‘mandatory information’ related with business project and illegal site such as bidding, illegal site, sales target, etc. In the case of horse racing, main articles were news on the business promotion or advertisement such as place of business, public relations. Lastly, in the case of casino, articles were ‘major information' such as illegality, gambling place, foreigner. As times passed, articles on casino in the 1990s, lottery in the 2000s and horse racing in 2010s have been increased and public reaction also has been changed to business scandal, win, civic movement, etc. And framing and public interest presented by frequency and connectivity of articles were classified by four types, 1. advertising publicity, 2. mandatory information, 3. social issue, 4. major information. It was confirmed that ‘social issue' related with accident, corruption, etc. was formed as main public agenda.
