The focus of the Institute is tofacilitate and support academicresearch that can be used to frameand implement effective publicpolicies and responsible gaming andgambling practices whilecontributing to the scientificknowledge base. Its core purposesinclude:

1. to expand the depthand breadth ofscientific knowledge ofgaming and gamblingin four broad andoverlapping domains:
2. act as a clearinghousefor gaming research;
3. facilitate the readyaccess to, and thedevelopment of, the applicable librarycollections of theInstitute Universities;
4. forge strongcollaborative links withnational andinternational scholarsand organizationsinvolved ingaming/gamblingresearch and studies;
5. provide educationabout currentknowledge throughresearch publicationsand reporting ofresearch results;
6. sponsor research thatis peer reviewed, ofthe highest academicquality and related toemergent gamingactivities;
7. to the extentreasonably possible,promote research inpriority areas.
