- Alberta Gambling Research Institute Annual Report 2001

The Alberta Gaming Research Institutewas established on November 26,1999, in response to recommendationsfrom the Alberta Lotteries andGaming Summit '98 that moregovernment resources be dedicated togaming research. The Institute, aconsortium of the Universities ofAlberta, Calgary and Lethbridge,sponsors research into gaming-relatedtopics such as the social costs andbenefits of gaming, aboriginal gamingissues and gaming trends. The Instituteworks in partnership with the AlbertaGaming Research Council, which wasestablished in August 1999 to helpdirect the research activities of theInstitute.
An amount of $4.5 million over threeyears has been allocated to theInstitute from the Alberta LotteryFund. The Alberta government hasalso dedicated additional funding tothe Alberta Alcohol and Drug AbuseCommission (AADAC) to supportproblem gambling prevention,education and treatment programs.
