Abstract: Aim. The request for a correlated gambling illness cure is high in the public healthcare service. For this reason it is useful to enrich the diagnostic process with a fast clinical test such as the Luscher's test. This test helps also during the treatment process. Methods. In the GAP cure service of ASS n. I (Trieste) the Luscher's test was applied to 65 patients previously diagnosed by DSM-IV-TR and SOGS. This experimental group was matched with a control group which presented no problems in either axis 1 and 2 DSM-lV-TR, including gambling problems. Results. The major differences between groups found that the gamblers had alterations in the chromatic stimula choosing only red, black, grey and brown colours. Furthermore, altered answers have been observed in the gamblers only in the first part of test that doesn't reveal the more structural and deep personality aspects. At the same time, as concerning the second part of the Luscher's test there were no different answers between the gamblers and the control groups. Conclusions. The gamblers differences confirm the compulsive aspects (red), opposition aspects (black), depressive aspects (grey) and psycho-physical stress (brown) as defined in the literature. This test gap could depend on strong gamblers defences in order to maintain a scission between compulsive acts and correlated emotions for the patients psychologically unbearable.
