Abstract: The concept of pathological gambling appeared in the scientific literature around 1980 (DSM-III). Damages associated with pathological gambling are numerous and severe. Psychiatric and addictive comorbidities are frequent. Specific erroneous perceptions and beliefs require cognitive restructuring inside addictologic usual treatment approaches. Excessive video gaming appears as an emergent phenomenon, which justify more studies to assess its reality and identify risk factors. (C) 2010 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
